Work to begin on Koch Arena's new lighting system

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Wichita State says work is soon to begin in the replacement of the lighting system at Koch Arena. The existing metal halide lamps will be removed. In their place would be quick-start, energy-efficient LED lamps.

A University release says the life of the lights will be longer than the current version.

The total cost of the project checks in at just more than $442,000. It was funded from the school's Physical Plant budget. The school estimates the payback of the project to be less than 12 years.

The project will also take the opportunity to replace 61-year-old wiring for future reliability and to construct a truss system that will allow the court lighting to be lowered, allowing convenient lamp replacement.
