Toddler in Kansas abuse case dies at Wichita hospital

RUSSELL, Kan. (KAKE) -

A 14-month-old boy hospitalized after a case of possible abuse in Russell has died at a Wichita hospital.

Kansas Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Melissa Underwood confirmed the toddler's death and said an autopsy was being performed Thursday. 

Russell police said the department received a call on Sunday regarding the child who was being treated at a Wichita hospital.

Underwood said the case is still under investigation and no arrests have been made. No names were released.

A release from Russell police says the department received a call on Sunday regarding the child who was being treated at a Wichita hospital. As a result, an investigation is being conducted by the department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. 

The condition of the 14-month-old boy was not released. 

The KBI and Russell police have not provided additional details in the case.
