Rue21 closing three Kansas stores

(KAKE) -

Rue21 will close three of its 11 Kansas stores, as part of a nationwide downsizing.

The fashion store chain revealed Saturday it will close stores across the U.S. A check by KAKE News Sunday found the closings include stores on Industrial Road in Emporia, at Big Creek Crossing in Hays and the Central Mall location in Salina.

"It’s true – we are closing this store," says the Rue21 message at all web pages affected by the shutdown. "It was a difficult but necessary decision. Stop by and check out the deals before it’s too late."

The announcement is the latest blow to Salina's mall, which has also dealt with closing announcements by Radio Shack and Sears since the start of 2017.

Kansas City ABC affiliate KMBC reported nearly 400 Rue21 locations nationwide will close. The chain has more than 1,000 stores overall. Rue21 noted its website will remain open for business.
