ELLSWORTH, Kan. (KAKE) -

Ellsworth police are warning area residents about a potential phone scam hitting the area.

Police say they were alerted by the Kansas Attorney General that folks have been getting calls from people saying that H&B Communications -- the current cable provider in the Ellsworth area -- has been bought out. The callers then continue telling potential victims that to keep their service they'll have to provide their account number and credit card information.

Police advise never to give out information to a caller you don't trust. H&B told KAKE News it does not call customers asking for such information.
