WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

An 82-year-old woman is dead following a single car crash Friday in northeast Wichita.

It happened about 6:20 p.m. along Rock Road just north of the 13th Street intersection.

Officer Paul Cruz of the Wichita Police Department said the woman was headed south on Rock in the inside lane when the car veered across all lanes of northbound traffic, jumped a curb then crashed into a utility pole.

"At this point based on the initial investigation and speaking with the supervisors we believe that this is medically related," said Cruz.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not released.

Traffic along Rock Road was impacted for several hours as crews worked the scene.

No one else was hurt. Police expect to release more information at a later time.
