A Wichita woman accused of decapitating her ex-boyfriend's mother was charged with first-degree murder Wednesday afternoon.

Micki Davis, 63, was killed Sunday. Rachael Hilyard, 35, had no responses or questions during her court appearance and remains jailed on $200,000 bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 26.

Lt Todd Ojile says Davis was attacked after she went with her 9-year-old grandson to a home to get property that belonged to the victim's son. Ojile says that during the assault, the boy was able to grab his grandmother's phone and run away.

Responding officers called for backup after finding the victim's body in the garage of the home in the 1400 block of West Rita. Hilyard was found hiding in the home.

"She's going to be incarcerated for the rest of her days," said Casey Wallace, the victim's nephew. "I hope she just sits in that jail and thinks about that. Hope it eats her alive. And I hope Micki's at peace."

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Hilyard spent time on Community Corrections in Sedgwick County from September 2013 through May 2015 for convictions on four counts of drug possession.

Sunday's homicide was Wichita's ninth of 2017. The city's tenth homicide of the year occurred just hours later.
