WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Wichita State University will leave the Missouri Valley Conference and become a member of the American Athletic Conference,  a  WSU Athletic Department source tells KAKE News.  The source said WSU will begin play in all sports in the AAC in the 2017-18 school year.

Reports of WSU's possible move to the AAC have been circulating for days.  Wichita State will become the 12th basketball member of the conference.  Other schools in the AAC  are Central Florida, Cincinnati, Connecticut, East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, South Florida, SMU, Temple, Tulane and Tulsa.   Navy is an AAC member in football only.

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported today that the Missouri Valley Conference will hold an emergency meeting Sunday to talk about the possibility of Wichita State's move to the AAC.    Wichita State has been a member of the Valley since 1945.
