FC Wichita announces semi professional women's soccer team

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

FC Wichita announced the city's first professional or semi professional women's soccer team on Thursday afternoon.

Hutchinson Community College's Sammy Lane will lead the team as the head coach, which will be made up of area soccer players.

That includes Whitney Berry, who becomes the first signing in club history. She graduated from Goddard High School, was a standout at Kansas and became the first Wichita women ever drafted into professional soccer.

Andover 16-year-old Peyton Vincze, Bishop Carroll graduate and Northern Iowa goalkeeper Jami Reichenberger and Newton High senior and K-State signee Brookelynn Entz were also introduced at the news conference.

Their first game will be against FC Dallas, a team made up of national team women's players from around the globe. It will kick-off at 4 p.m. at the Stryker Soccer Complex on May 13. 

Season tickets for the WPSL team go on sale March 1.
