19-year-old charged in deadly east Wichita shooting

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A 19-year-old has been charged in connection to a deadly shooting in east Wichita last week.

Andrew Bull was charged Thursday with first-degree murder and distribution of marijuana. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 12. 

The shooting happened at around 11 p.m. Friday, December 23, at 166 South Rock Road. Lt Todd Ojile said Bull and the victim, 23-year-old Charles Hawkins, were involved in a drug transaction when Hawkins tried to rob Bull and Bull shot him.

Bull remains jailed on $100,000 bond.

A Wichita police official says a 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a deadly shooting last week.

The shooting happened at around 11 p.m. Friday at 166 South Rock Road. Lt Todd Ojile said suspect and the victim, 23-year-old Charles Hawkins, were involved in a drug transaction.

"Both of the individuals were armed," Ojile said. "During that drug transaction, it is believed that Mr. Hawkins pulled a gun and attempted to rob this male who fired his weapon, shooting and killing Mr. Hawkins."

The suspect was arrested in the 200 block of South Topeka and was booked into jail Wednesday morning for first-degree murder. 

The case will be presented to the district attorney's office late this week, Ojile said. 

Hawkins' death is Wichita's 33rd homicide of 2016.
