WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office has confirmed a now-former Valley Center police officer has been arrested for rape and other sex crimes.

Sgt. Thomas J. Delgado was booked just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday for rape, sexual battery, official misconduct using confidential information, and sexual exploitation of a child. He was being held on $75,000 bond.

Delgado was arrested at the Valley Center police station following a weeks-long investigation, said Captain David Mattingly with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office.

Delgado was given the option to resign and did so, the Valley Center Police Department said.

He worked as a commissioned deputy for the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office from June 1998 to March 2014 before joining the Valley Center Police Department.
