WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

President-elect Trump has yet to name a nominee for Secretary of Agriculture. But a former aide to a Kansas Senator will lead the agricultural division of his team.

Joel Leftwich was named director of the USDA section of the presidential transition Tuesday. Leftwich is currently Republican staff director for the Senate Agriculture Committee, which Sen. Pat Roberts chairs.

Leftwich served for years as an adviser to Roberts, then moved PepsiCo in a public policy and government affairs role. He joined the Senate committee staff in January 2015.

Leftwich's salary in his new position will be paid by the Trump transition operation.
