ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (KAKE) -

An 19-year-old Arkansas City man has been charged with abusing a 24-day-old infant.

Austin Joe Warford was charged with one count of abuse of a child. Officers were called around 12:30 p.m. Monday to South Central Kansas Medical Center for a report of an infant with a spiral fracture to the leg, said Andrew Lawson, public information officer for Arkansas City.

The child was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for specialized care. The infant also was placed into police protective custody.

During their investigation, police learned the infant was injured while in the care of Warford, the mother’s boyfriend. He was arrested Wednesday.

Lawson did not release the infant's condition Friday afternoon.
