WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Wichita fire crews were busy battling both the sweltering heat and heavy fire int the back of a south Wichita business Saturday afternoon.

Crews were call at about 1:15 p.m. to the Western Industries pallet plant. The building used to house a Rainbow Bakery Shop and is located just off Southeast Boulevard near I-135.

Arriving firefighters found heavy smoke and growing flames in a dumpster, on pallets and on the outside of the garage door in the back of the building. There were 11 employees working inside the plant when the fire caught.

Battalion Chief John Turner said as well as keeping the fire out of the building, which is full of combustibles, a primary concern was keeping the flames off the flammable rubberized roof.

Crews were able to control the fire, keeping it outside a short time later. No one was hurt.

Turner said investigators are looking at surveillance video to help determine the cause of the fire.
