BURDEN, Kan. (AP) -

Voters in the Central of Burden school district (USD 462) approved a bond proposal Tuesday to remodel the junior-senior high school.

Final unofficial results show 269 voters supported the bond issue, while 246 were opposed.

Bonds worth about $4.9 million will be issued for building, security and transportation improvements. They will include a "safe room" for severe storms, a music room, a weight room and two locker rooms.

Security cameras also will be installed at the Junior-Senior High, with every classroom door receiving hardware to automatically lock in case of emergencies. In addition, the main gymnasium will have air conditioning added.

School officials say the first construction could begin in October, with the entire renovation list finishing in early 2018.
