Crime Stoppers: Still no suspect in stabbing of Wichita pastor

Wichita police and Crime Stoppers are asking for your help in identifying the man who attacked a pastor in what the victim is calling a hate crime KAKE News first told you about last week.

Michael Garcia says he was walking his dog along the river bank near his south Wichita apartment complex two weeks ago when a man emerged from the nearby trees.

"He moved toward me and shoved a blade into my stomach and referred to me as a stupid faggot pastor," Garcia said.

Garcia described his attacker as a white man in his 30s, about 5-foot-10 and "with a little bit of a beard."

Progress in the case remains less than promising.

"We have no leads, no information, no suspects in this case," said Crime Stoppers Detective Wendy Hummell.

Crime Stoppers is now offering a reward of up to $2,500 for anyone with information in this case.

In the meantime, Garcia just wants to keep similar attacks from happening to someone else because of their sexual orientation.

"This has brought it to the forefront, that people truly want to harm the gay community," he said.
