Ark City man charged with 31 sex offenses

An Arkansas City man has been charged with more than two dozen sex offenses.

Darren Lee Williams, 36, was charged on Thursday with 31 counts that include aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated indecent liberties with a child, criminal sodomy, indecent liberties with a child and rape. Cowley from County Attorney Christopher Smith did not elaborate of the number of charges for each offense.

Williams arrested around 6 p.m. Friday, February 26 during a controlled traffic stop in the 600 block of West Madison Avenue in Arkansas City.

Police received a report last Wednesday of a man who was having an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl. While investigating the initial allegation, police identified another alleged victim.

Police said some of the offenses occurred within the city limits of Arkansas City, while others occurred in rural parts of Cowley County.

Williams' next court appearance is scheduled for March 10 in Cowley County District Court. He remains in the Cowley County Jail on s $200,000 bond.

This case is being investigated by the Arkansas City Police Department, with the assistance of the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office.
