September 13--KAKE-TV won the 2006 Station of the Year award for large markets announced today by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters. In all, KAKE TV received 10 awards, including best newscast for KAKE News at 5.
“Winning awards for both Station of the Year and Best Newscast is especially meaningful because it represents the best a TV station can be,” said Terry Cole, KAKE TV President and General Manager. “These awards demonstrate the
distinguished news coverage, imaginative local programming and leadership in community service KAKE TV was founded on.”
KAKE News received six 1st place awards:
Newscast - “KAKE News at 5:00”,
News Feature Story - “The Oldest Judge”,
Single Topic Event News Coverage -“BTK: The Final Chapter”
In-Depth News Reporting - “Planners Criminal Past”
Editorial/Commentary - “Red Flags”
Sports Program - “Friday Football
Blitz”. This is the fifth year in a row that KAKE sports has taken 1st
place with the high school football highlights show.
In addition, KAKE Marketing received two 1st place awards and two 2nd place awards for station promotion/public service announcements.
Awards will be presented during KAB's Annual Convention at Harrah's Prairie Band Casino on Monday October 23, 2006.
