Meteorologist Blake Smith joined the KAKE First Alert Weather team in December 2007.

Blake is designated as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist™ by the American Meteorological Society®. Before being superseded by the CBM™, he was awarded the Television Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society®. Today, he also maintains a Television Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association.

Blake has received the following honors:
2009 - Best Weathercast - 1st Place (Kansas Association of Broadcasters)
2009 - Best Morning Newscast - 1st Place (Kansas Association of Broadcasters)
2004 - Best Weatherperson - 1st Place (Wyoming Association of Broadcasters)

Blake came to KAKE from Topeka, where he spent two years as the morning meteorologist for KTKA-TV. He also worked as a weekend meteorologist for WBNG-TV in Binghamton, New York. Blake’s career started in 2002 as the morning meteorologist KTWO-TV in Casper, Wyoming.

Coming to Wichita was an easy decision. Blake is a native Kansan, with family just up the turnpike in Osage County. He graduated from the University of Arizona with a BS in atmospheric science with journalism minor.

In his spare time, Blake enjoys traveling around the world. He’s spent time exploring the beautiful country of China and backpacking around Europe. When Blake’s not traveling, he enjoys running and playing with his Beagle "Nash" and odd, but cute mutt "Shiba". While working in Casper, Blake ran a marathon, though he prefers shorter distances these days.

In 2010, Blake chose a new career as a science teacher for the Maize School District. He still "drops in" at the KAKE Studios every once in a while. You can catch Blake Sunday mornings on KAKE.
