Ben Arnet joined the KAKE Sports Team in July 2007. A native of Columbia, MO, Ben has spent many years covering college and pro sports throughout the country and he’s proud to add Kansas to the list.
Born and raised in Missouri, Ben started in TV at the age of 16, shooting sports and co-producing SportsZone at KMIZ-TV in Columbia, MO. In November 2000 Ben moved across town to KOMU-TV in Columbia as a sports reporter/photographer and fill-in anchor. His main duties included providing feature reports for “This Week in Mizzou Football” and “Mizzou Basketball w/Quin Snyder” on the Mizzou Sports Network, which airs on FSN Midwest and other affiliates across the area. In three years in Columbia, Ben traveled all across the country covering the University of Missouri, including most of the cities in the Big 12 and half of the Big Ten. At KOMU Ben also followed local high school sports and the pro’s, often traveling to St. Louis and Kansas City to cover the Cardinals, Rams, Blues, Chiefs and Royals.
In June 2004, Ben moved over 1500 miles to Tucson, Arizona to become a Sports Anchor and Reporter at KGUN-TV. While in Arizona, Ben covered a variety of sports and events, but his favorite thing about Tucson was covering 3 different major league baseball teams each year at Spring Training. He also covered the University of Arizona, Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks.
In July 2006 Ben moved back to his hometown of Columbia, MO and resumed many of his old duties with the Mizzou Sports Network. He helped produce “This Week in Mizzou Football” and “This Week in Mizzou Basketball” for the 2006-07 season and also served as an on-air “personality” for both shows. Ben also mentored some future reporters while back at his alma mater, teaching several journalism classes at the University of Missouri.
Ben is a proud graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. In his years in television sports, he has covered it all including college bowl games (The Cotton Bowl gives away the most free stuff!), five different Major League Baseball teams, the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the NBA Playoffs, the PGA Tour, the NCAA Tournament and one of the longest NFL playoff games in history (Rams vs. Panthers, January 10th, 2004). But Ben’s most cherished memories in the business come from covering the personal stories that touch peoples’ lives in the community.
In his spare time Ben loves reading, watching his favorite teams (especially Mizzou, the St. Louis Cardinals and Phoenix Suns), watching DVD’s, cooking (?!) and working out at the gym so he doesn’t get fat.
If you know of a story in the community that should be told, just give a holler!
