Rye joined KAKE News as the Western Kansas reporter in March 2009. After spending most of his life in Southeast Kansas, he is excited to see what the other side of the state has to offer.
Rye grew up in Oswego, KS, and graduated from Oswego High School. He then attended Pittsburg State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communication. A familiar face on campus, Rye co-hosted the school’s weekly news telecast, called play-by-play for the athletic teams, and created his own cooking show. Before moving west, he worked as a video editor for KOLR, the CBS affiliate in Springfield, MO.
When he’s not covering a story, Rye enjoys strumming on his six-string and playing sports. His favorites include sand volleyball, golf, and slow-pitch softball.
