Wichita State junior guard Fred VanVleet was named a 2014 Blue Ribbon Preseason First Team All-American, Blue Ribbon announced on Monday.
The Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook, now in it’s 34th edition, is widely known as the “bible” of college basketball. It features a 400-page preseason preview guide with full stories on every team in men’s college basketball.
The Rockford, Ill. native started in all 36 of the Shockers’ games, averaging 11.6 points per game, 5.4 assists per game and 3.9 rebounds per game.
VanVleet earned 10 postseason awards during the 2013-14 season. He was named AP Honorable Mention All-America while being named to the 2014 MVC All-First Team, the 2014 MVC All-Defensive Team, the 2014 MVC Most-ImprovedTeam as the Team Captain, and was named the 2014 Larry Bird MVC Player of the Year.
VanVleet was also named to the Sporting News All-America Third Team, the USBWA District VI All-District Team, the NABC Division 16 All-First Team, was a 2014 Bob Cousy Award finalist and was named to the NABC Division I All-America Third Team. On July 29, Real Men, Real Heroes also honored VanVleet for his involvement and service to youth in the Wichita community.
