The Golden Buffaloes struggled with a deficiency in versatility in 2013 on their way to a 2-7 finish. Running the ball on 92% of their 437 offensive snaps, opposing defenses keyed on the running game and kept Southeast from establishing a consistent attack.

Tre Griffin rushed for over 1,100 yards but graduated in the spring, before representing Southeast in the Kansas Shrine Bowl. Griffin's absence creates an opening for junior tailback Ira Hines, a team leader and weight room workhorse. But it's sophomore Cameron Bond who may provide the Golden Buffaloes with the dose of versatility in the passing game, although likely not immediately.

"Cameron is a pretty good kid. He's a pretty good athlete. With that, we're hoping for good things. Of course, he is young so we know he is going to make mistakes. We're looking down the road into the future to hopefully build that up and maybe go do some things later on," said Asmussen.

Led by a solid front seven, the Golden Buffaloes should be strong enough defensively to give the offense a chance to make its mark and ultimately get Southeast on track in 2014.
