Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School varsity boys basketball coach Bernie Pearson announced today that he is resigning from the position he has held for ten years. Pearson expects to develop opportunities in the business community, though he has not ruled out the possibility of returning to coaching in the future.
During his tenure at KMC, Coach Pearson’s teams compiled an overall record of 110-110. They won a share of the City League title in 2006, only the second league title in the school’s history
and its first in more than thirty years, and also advanced to the state tournament twice. Coach Pearson was named the Wichita Metro Coach of the Year in 2006.
“Bernie has been a solid, dedicated member of our athletic staff and faculty for ten years, and we are grateful for his efforts in leading our students – both on the basketball court and in the classroom” commented Athletic Director, John Heise.
Mr. Pearson will continue to teach in KMC’s Physical Education department through the end of the current school year.
The school will immediately begin its search for a new basketball coach, and interested candidates should contact Athletic Director John Heise.
