Omar Martin/South High Junior. : "When he says he wants to be the best, he does the work to be the best."
Cardavion Parker/South High freshman: "He's got that fast speed like lightning. I call him 'Flash'."
Rakim Dean/South High Junior: "When he takes off, he uses all of his strength. His form is nice. He's like a stallion."
Davonte Harris/South High junior: "The last week, I've heard a lot of people calling me RG3. That's what I've been called a whole lot lately."
Whatever it is you call him, finding a nickname for Davonte Harris is not the toughest part out here on the track. It's actually keeping up with him.
Harris: "People would always ask me to race around the neighborhood. And I just realized I was one of the fastest out of the bunch. In my early childhood, I kind of went through a lot. And I just use this as a way to weed out problems and just run with my friends."
And this Wichita South Titan has turned his troubles to triumph, qualifying for 4 events in this weekend's State Meet.
"When I finished (qualifying for) my 200, all I could do was run and clap. I ran and clapped and put my hands up to God. I was just thankful that I was able to do that."
Harris has already reached his goals, earning those State Meet appearances. But now, he pushes harder, with opportunities like these there and gone in a... flash.
Harris: "I just feel like I want a lot more for the effort I've put in."
