Gavin Olson of Maize just goes with the flow. its something he's gotten used to from being the new kid on the block.
Gavin Olson/Athlete of the Week: "I was born in Houston. Then we moved to England, near Windsor. Then we moved to Belgium after that. Then we moved to Maryland. And then to Alabama and then to Indiana before we came here."
Always on the move, Olson hasn't had trouble adjusting to life in Kansas. In fact, he's been so comfortable, its almost puzzling.
Mitchell Wagner/Maize Senior: "I wouldn't be. But we all kind of accepted him in and he's a really cool guy so it was easy for him to get along with us. we push each other in practice and I guess having someone else good in the events that I'm good at helps me too."
"And it helps that Olson - like the Eagles program - is a winner. but it wasn't Maize's reputation that reeled him in. He had sat out his junior year in Indiana and was not planning on returning to the sport until a friend on the team talked him into a tryout.
"I did some club swimming to get back in shape and I just kind of fell in to it."
"And that decision could turn into a college scholarship - and a state title.
"That's the goal right now. Especially in the relays. We have a really good shot with the guys we have going right now."
