First year Bluestem High School football coach Kyle Wallis knew he had a lot of work to do to turn the team into a winner. It didn't take long.
Coming into the season, Bluestem had won one game in the past decade. Three weeks ago they were trying to avoid their 30th straight loss. They did, beating Wichita Independent 29-0. Then district play started and the Lions beat Eureka and Fredonia, earning the first playoff berth in school history.
"For them to reap some of the rewards from all the hard work they've put in, it's great for them and it's great for the community to have a sense of pride about the football program," Wallis said.
Players like Blake Bolander said the wins have given them confidence and pride in knowing they made school history.
