Bishop Carroll continued its early dominance against city league competition Thursday night as the defending 5A champs shut out Wichita North, 49-0.
The Eagles started what became a scoring flurry with back to back rushing touchdowns by Denzel Goolsby and Tory Smith before Tyler Skilling connected with Goolsby through the air on a 33 yard catch and run on fourth down. Skilling's only touchdown pass of the game stretched the Carroll lead to 22-0.
The Golden Eagles closed the first half with two touchdown passes from backup quarterback, junior Colton Howell. His toss to the flats was hauled in by Scott Linnebur, who weaved through the Redskins defense for a 35 yard touchdown. Linnebur also hauled in a 7 yard pass in the end zone just before halftime.
Leading 35-0 at the break, the Golden Eagles played few starters in the second half. The first team defense exited the game with the Redskins possessing minus-20 yards rushing and zero passing yards.
The win comes in the first of two consecutive Thursday night games for Bishop Carroll, as the Eagles visit Wichita South next week. Wichita North looks for its first win in another tough contest next Friday, taking on Kapaun Mt. Carmel at Cessna Stadium.
