After capping off a regional championship with their 68th straight win on Tuesday, the Chase County Bulldogs are the KAKE Sports Student Athletes of the Week.
The state record stands at 72 games, and while they admit the idea of breaking it is exciting, the idea of a third straight state title is of the most importance right now.
"To be able to go through life knowing that you won three state championships in a row - that's something that there are very few people on this Earth that can possess," said head coach Brian Potter, who credits the hard work of his players and assistant coaches, along with the team's strong community support, for the Bulldogs' success.
The players say they don't talk much about the streak, but it may be talked about all offseason if the Bulldogs win another championship. To win the title, they would need to win three games, putting the team 1 win shy of the state record.
