Ed Kriwiel Selected for K.S.H.S.A.A. Hall of Fame Class of 2009
Five individuals have been selected for induction into the Kansas State High School Activities Hall of Fame Class of 2009. Included in the class list for 2009 is the late Ed Kriwiel, long-time Coach of football and golf at Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School.
In 36 years of coaching football at two Wichita high schools, Ed Kriwiel compiled an incredible record of 297-67-7. His 14 years at Wichita West High School, from 1952-1966, resulted in a record of 93-26-7; in 22 years at KMC, from 1969-1990, his teams were 204-41. The KMC teams qualified for the playoffs 18 years (playoffs began in 1969), won nine state championships and four runner-up titles, earned seven league titles and finished three seasons undefeated.
Kriwiel also experience tremendous success as the head golf coach at KMC. In 36 years as the boys coach, his teams earned 24 state titles and 27 City League championships. In 10 years at the helm of the girls team, the Lady Crusaders captured four state titles and eight league championships.
His most recent honor was induction into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
Kriwiel passed away on December 3, 2007. Details of the award ceremony have not yet been finalized.
