The Wichita Wingnuts lost 6-3 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHaws at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Ryan Stovall hit a two-run triple to right-center in the top of the second to give the RedHawks a 2-0 lead. Fargo never trailed during the game, and added two more runs in the third on Enrique Cruz's two-run home run to left field.
Wichita cut the lead to 4-1 in the third. Ryan Khoury drew a one-out walk and scored from first base on Steve Carrillo's double to left-center. Jake Kahaulelio brought Wichita within two when he singled home David Peralta with two outs in the fourth.
Jose Perez started for the Wingnuts and allowed four earned runs on six hits in four innings in the loss. Perez struck out four and walked one.
Paul Burnside earned the win for Fargo, pitching three shutout innings with three strikeouts. Tony Butler started for the RedHawks and did not factor into the decision. Butler allowed two earned runs on three hits in four innings. Butler walked three and struck out three.
Fargo extended its lead in the top of the eighth on a two-out, RBI single from Carlo Cota. Aharon Eggleston homered down the right field line in the top of the ninth to make it 6-2.
Mike Conroy singled home the Wingnuts' final run in the bottom of the ninth. With first and second and two outs, the RedHawks turned C.J. Ziegler's line drive to left-center into a double play to end the game.
Jared Simon and Matt Nevarez each worked a scoreless relief inning.
The Wingnuts finish their spring schedule with a 5-1 record.
The Wingnuts open the 2012 season on Thursday night when they host the Lincoln Saltdogs at 7:05 p.m. Wichita sends Derek Blacksher to the mound against Lincoln left-hander Jino Gonzalez.
