Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, the AirHogs rallied for two runs to take their second and final lead of the night. David Thomas drew a four-pitch leadoff walk against starting pitcher Ryan Hinson. Yasutsugu Nishimoto laid down a sacrifice bunt attempt and reached first base when Justin Tellam's throw to first went off the glove of Zac Mitchell and into foul territory. Thomas went to third on the play.
Nick Walters relieved Hinson. Keanon Simon drove in Thomas with the tying run on a fielder's choice to shortstop. A throwing error charged to Mitchell allowed Simon to take second base. Bryan Frichter punched a single through the right side to score Simon with the go-ahead run.
Grand Prairie broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Chris McMurrary tripled into the right field corner leading off and scored on a double to right from Trent Lockwood. Three batters later, Simon made it 6-3 with a groundball single to center. A Frichter double to left and a Brian Myrow singled to right accounted for the final three runs in the inning.
Wichita sliced the lead to 9-5 in the top of the ninth on RBI doubles from John Rodriguez and David Peralta before Derrick Miramontes recorded the final out for Grand Prairie.
Andres Rodriguez hit a two-out, two run home run in the bottom of the first to give the AirHogs an early 2-0 lead.
John Rodriguez tied it in the top of the fifth, slugging a two-out, two run double to right field that scored Mitchell and Ryan Khoury. Rodriguez gave Wichita its only lead in the top of the seventh, plating Khoury from third on a groundout to second base. Rodriguez finished the game with three hits, two doubles, and four RBI.
Hinson took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits in six-plus innings. Hinson walked seven and struck out three.
John Brownell earned the win for Grand Prairie, allowing three earned runs on eight hits in seven innings. Brownell walked four and struck out three.
Mitchell had two hits in the game--the first of his professional career.
