Wichita's Kastor Honored By Big 12

Kansas junior soccer player Caroline Kastor has been honored by the Big 12 Conference as the forward was named Offensive Player of the Week for contests played Sept. 3-9 it was announced Tuesday. It is the fourth weekly conference honor by a Jayhawk this season and the first of Kastor’s career.

The Wichita native had a career weekend for the Jayhawks, notching two multi-goal matches and collecting an assist to add nine points to her now league-leading 16 points on the season. The junior claimed her first-career two-goal game and earned her second assist of the year in a 4-1 win over Missouri State Friday afternoon. She played high school soccer at Kapaun.

Two days later, she found the net twice in just over a minute, helping the Jayhawks to a 3-2 victory over NC State and extending their unbeaten streak to six games. Kastor now leads the conference in points (16), goals (seven) and game-winning goals (three).

Kansas has earned four weekly conference honors through the first four weeks of the 2012 campaign (Ashley Williams - 8/21: Newcomer, Ashley Williams – 9/4: Offensive, Ashley Williams – 9/4: Newcomer, Kastor – 9/11: Offensive), marking the most by a KU team in the opening four weeks since the inception of the Big 12 in 1996.

The Jayhawks return to action this Friday, Sept. 14 for a matchup with the Denver Pioneers. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m., at the Jayhawks Soccer Complex in Lawrence and can be viewed on AT&T Jayhawk All-Access.
