Wichita State Uses Late Surge To Defeat ISU, 71-66
February 4, 2012 - Wichita State waited until under 2 minutes remained to take their largest lead on Indiana State in what was a back-and-forth, late night showdown at Koch Arena Saturday resulting in a 71-66 Schocker win, and a share of first place in the Missouri Valley Conference.

The Sycamores would not go quietly after Ben Smith's three pointer opened up a 9 point advantage, coming back to cut the Shocker lead to 4 with :45 remaining.

It could have gotten much closer in the next ten seconds, but the Sycamores missed a three point try, which was rebounded by Garrett Stutz, who put up 20 points and 12 rebounds in the second half alone to finish with 24 points for the game.

Free throw shooting dictated the final seconds for WSU, as Stutz converted 5 out of 6 shots from the charity stripe.

Because Northern Iowa defeated #12 Creighton earlier Saturday, the Shockers move into a tie for first place in the Valley with an 11-2 record.

WSU will host Northern Iowa on Wednesday, followed by what could be a regular season championship-deciding tilt at Creighton on Saturday.
