Two months after local businessman Wink Hartman put the Wichita Wild franchise up for sale, the Wichita area is expected to get an arena football team for the upcoming season, according to CPIFL and LSFL sources.
As the Champions Professional Indoor Football League and the Lone Star Football League discuss its post-merger plans in Wichita this week, the league has called a Thursday afternoon news conference at the regarding the future of a franchise in Wichita.
It is not known at this time whether the franchise would hold the name "Wichita Wild" or if it would have an entirely new name and play in a new arena.
The Hartman Sports Group's attempt sell the team to a group of local businessmen failed two weeks ago, prompting speculation that the group desired to play the team's games at the Kansas Star Casino. Hartman had stated it was his priority to ensure the Wild remained at Hartman Arena.
Hartman has been unavailable for comment as of press time.
