After taking a one-goal lead in the first period, Wichita (19-10-3) gave up three unanswered goals and lost on New Year's Eve to Fort Worth (15-12-4), 4-2, at the NYTEX Sports Centre. Dave Inman and Les Reaney scored for Wichita in the losing effort. Wichita continues to lead the season-series 5-2-0 and will not see Fort Worth until early March.

The first five minutes started out to what fans should expect at Fort Worth, a fast-paced game with not a lot of offensive zone time for either club. The Brahmas took the first lead of the game at the six minute mark. Tomas Klempa took a loose puck up the left wing and let a shot go from the left face-off circle that got through Torrie Jung to make it 1-0. Wichita scored the next two, with both goals coming on the power play. With 30 seconds remaining in the Thunder's first man advantage, Inman blasted a low shot from the blue line and beat Brad Fogal to tie the game at one. Wichita was then awarded its second power play as Sy Nutkevitch was called for goaltender interference. Six seconds later, Kevin Young zipped a shot-pass down to Reaney and he slipped it in to give Wichita its first lead of the game at 2-1. Wichita went 2-for-2 on the power in the first period.

The Brahmas turned the tables on the Thunder in the second period, scoring twice to take a 3-2 lead. At 9:09, Calin Wild batted a puck out of the air that came off of Jung and scored to tie the game at two with a shorthanded goal. The official ruled that the play was legal, saying that Wild's stick was below the crossbar. Four minutes later, Fort Worth benefited from a five-on-three man advantage and scored to take their second lead of the game. Greger Hanson appeared to score to tie the game, but was called for cross-checking in the crease and the goal was waived off. After Jon Madden was also called for a cross-check, Shawn Szydlowski tipped home a point shot from Ross Rouleau at 13:01 to make it 3-2 in favor of the Brahmas.

Fort Worth added an insurance goal in the third period from Austin Mayer at 9:09 and held on for the 4-2 victory.

Matt Summers added two helpers in the losing effort. Wichita falls for the second-straight game and is now .500 on the road.

Wichita went 2-for-5 on the man advantage while the Brahmas were 1-for-6

Wichita returns to action on Wednesday, January 2nd as they take on the Quad City Mallards for the final time this season. The Thunder will not return home until January 18th when they host Tulsa.
