Aaron Watkins carded a 4-under 66 on Friday to maintain his lead after two rounds of the Air Capital Classic.
Watkins, who is seeking his first career victory on the Web.com Tour, finished 36 holes at Crestview Country Club at 11-under-par 129.
"I'm very comfortable out here," Watkins said. "If I have the confidence, then I can just kind of ride it out."
Tom Gillis and Sebastian Cappelen fired matching 5-under 65s to move into a share of second place with Sam Saunders (66) at 9-under 131.
BMW Charity Pro-Am winner Blayne Barber (67), Andres Gonzales (67), Rob Oppenheim (63) and Jeff Gove (64) are tied for fifth at 8-under, while Gavin Coles (69), Paul Claxton (68), Matt Weibring (65), Shane Bertsch (66) and Derek Fathauer (66) share ninth at minus-7.
Watkins started on the back nine and opened his day with a birdie at the 10th.
After parring the next four holes, he converted back-to-back gains at the 15th and 16th to move to 10-under.
A bogey at the 18th dropped him back to minus-9, but he would later birdie the fourth and seventh amid seven pars during his inward nine to finish at 11- under.
"You can't really think you have to get to a certain number," said Watkins. "You just got to take it hole-by-hole and take advantage, especially on the back nine."
Gillis started on the back nine and followed an opening par with four straight birdies from the 11th to race to 8-under.
He added gains at the 17th and second to reach 10-under, but then tripped to a bogey at the fifth to fall back to minus-9. He then traded a birdie at the seventh with a bogey at the eighth to finish there.
Cappelen also opened his round on the 10th tee and started hot with three birdies in a 4-hole stretch from the 11th. He later birdied the 18th to make the turn at 8-under.
Cappelen also reached 10-under with gains at the second and fifth, but he could not grab a share of the lead and bogeyed the eighth to dip back to minus-9.
Saunders countered a lone bogey with five birdies during his second round to earn his share of second place.
NOTES: Watkins' bogey at the 18th was his first of the tournament ... Watkins holds the lead at the end of a round for the first time in his career ... Cappelen is making his professional debut this week.
