Wichita State will open the 18-game Missouri Valley Conference schedule and defense of back-to-back conference titles Jan. 2 against Indiana State in Wichita, the MVC Office announced today.
“Our staff and team are excited for the challenge ahead and will learn through the difficult journey together through the MVC schedule to become not just a better team, but program,” said Head Coach Jody Adams. “I believe if you want to be the best you must play the best and in this year’s non-conference schedule you see just that as we prepare for the Valley's grind.
“The non-conference schedule and the Valley challenge are what this program needs to help prepare us for NCAA seeding, and post-season play. “
A second-straight Valley home game against Evansville on Jan. 4 will complete a five-game homestand that begins with the Shockers’ Winter Classic home tournament prior to Christmas Break Dec. 19-20.
WSU then plays three games on the road before returning Jan. 23 and 25 against Illinois State and SIU in Wichita.
The Shockers will have a three-game MVC homestand Feb. 8, 13 and 15 against Missouri State, Loyola and Bradley, respectively.
The regular-season home schedule wraps up Feb. 27 against Drake, and March 1 against UNI.
The regular-season schedule concludes on the road at Evansville and Indiana State, March 5 and 7, respectively.
MVC Tournament play begins March 12.
Wichita State previously released its non-conference schedule Aug. 1. Since then, times for the US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam have been released with the Shockers playing at 2:30 p.m., Central Time against Florida Gulf Coast Nov. 27. WSU then plays Ohio State and Clemson the next two days at 12:15 p.m. each day.
