Wichita State head volleyball coach Chris Lamb announced July 18 the 2014 volleyball schedule, which includes nine home matches and three tournaments. The Shockers will face four teams in 2014 that participated in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
The Shockers will open the season, Aug. 29-30, at the Bluegrass Battle in Lexington, Ky. WSU opens the season with 2013 NCAA Tournament team and host Kentucky. The Shockers will also play Virginia Tech and Butler in the tourney.
The following weekend, Sept. 4-6, the Shockers will travel to San Marcos, Texas, for the Delta Zeta Classic. WSU will face 2013 NCAA Tournament teams Texas State and UTSA in the tournament along with Baylor and North Texas.
WSU will travel to Omaha, Neb., Sept. 12-13, for the Bluejay Invitational. The Shocks will square off with 2013 NCAA Tournament team and host Creighton, along with Bowling Green and Pepperdine.
The Shockers will open the home portion of their schedule and MVC play with Illinois State on Sept. 19.
Other home matches include Indiana State on Sept. 20, UNI on Oct. 3, Drake on Oct. 4, Loyola on Oct. 24, Bradley on Oct. 25, Missouri State on Nov. 7, Evansville on Nov. 14 and Southern Illinois on Nov. 15.
In 2013, WSU finished second in the Shocker record books in total attendance (38,657) and fourth in average attendance (2,577) and finished 14th nationally in average attendance.
