Brandon Peterson captured his third win of the season pitching one inning, allowing no runs on one hit and striking out one. Starter Garrett Brummett went five innings, allowing no runs on seven hits and striking out four. Tanner Dearman went 2-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and Micah Green went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Erik Harbutz went 2-for-4 with a double.

Jack Livingston took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing one run on four hits. Scott Heelan went 4-for-5 at the plate with an RBI.

Neither team scored till Northwestern tallied three runs in the eighth inning on five straight base hits. Heelan drove in and scored a run while Jack Livingston and Zach Jones were responsible for the other two RBI to give the Wildcats a 3-0 advantage.

Green was hit by a pitch to lead off the Wichita State eighth inning, stole second and came around to score on a single by Dearman for the Shocker’s first run of the game. Dearman was plated in the next at-bat to cut the Wildcat lead to 3-2 on a throwing error when Garrett Bayliff singled to the first baseman.

After Harbutz doubled off the wall in left field to lead off the ninth inning and Dayne Parker singled to right field, Green hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Harbutz and push the game into extra innings.

The Shockers got another lead off hit in the bottom of the tenth inning on a single by Tyler Baker. Then, after Casey Gillaspie singled to move Baker to third, Kihle hit a single to the left field wall to plate Baker and win the game for Wichita State.

The Shockers will now head to Normal, Ill. to play Southern Illinois in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament on Tuesday, May 21. First pitch is set for 12:30 p.m.
