The Wichita Thunder learned who its opponent would be in the CHL Finals as the Fort Wayne Komets knocked off Missouri Thursday night in Game Seven of the Turner Conference Finals, 6-4. This is the first time both number one seeds will meet in the CHL Finals since 2008-09, when the Texas Brahmas defeated the Colorado Eagles 4-1 to win the title. Wichita is appearing in its fourth CHL Final, winning its last title in 1994-95 and its first trip back since 1997-98.
Wichita and Fort Wayne met only twice this season. The Thunder went 2-0-0 against the Komets, winning 5-3 on December 13th in the Air Capital and came back from a two-goal deficit to win in a shootout 3-2 on March 4th in Fort Wayne. Both teams feature high-powered offenses as Wichita finished first in the league in goals scored (231) while the Komets were third in scoring (228).
