Tulsa, OK -- In their first meeting of the season, Wichita failed to find the scoresheet on Wednesday night losing to the Tulsa Oilers by the final score of 4-0 at the BOK Center. The Oilers broke open a tight game with a three-goal third period to pull away for the victory and take an early lead in the StoneWolf Casino Cup, 1-0. Wichita sees its losing skid hit six games and its record falls to 1-5-3 on the season.
Brandon Coccimiglio provided much of the offense for the Oilers on Wednesday night, recording two goals and assisting on another. He tallied the first goal of the game at 7:45 and the only goal through the first 40 minutes of play.
At the start of the third, Coccimiglio recorded his second of the game 38 seconds in pushing the Oilers lead to 2-0. Tulsa pulled away with two more tallies as Michel Beausoleil scored at 13:40 and Adam Pleskach recorded one at 17:30 to close out the scoring for the Oilers. Wichita was held to four shots in the final period and tied a season-low 17 shots on net.
Wichita loses by its largest margin of the season and was shut-out for the first time this year. Taylor Nelson took the loss stopping 29 of 33 shots. Shane Madolora earned the win, stopping all 17 shots he faced.
Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play.
The Thunder stay on the road on Friday night, traveling to the Independence Event Center for the first time this season to face the Missouri Mavericks. Wichita will host Missouri the next night at INTRUST Bank Arena on November 9th at 7:05 p.m. Saturday is Family Four Pack Night.
