Todd Griffith scored the Thunder's lone goal in regulation while Kevin Regan won for the seventh time this season. Wichita leads the season-series 2-1-0 and will not see Rapid City until after the first of the year.

Jeff Lee broke a scoreless game past the midway portion of the first period to give Rapid City a 1-0 lead. He was able to muscle his way off the wall and beat Kevin Regan for his second goal of the season.

Wichita didn't waste any time at the start of the second to get the equalizer, scoring just 57 seconds in. Todd Griffith stripped the puck from the Rapid defender and made a beautiful toe-drag move through the slot to beat Tim Boron and tied the game at one. During the next shift, Rapid City appeared to re-take the lead when Riley Weselowski's shot from the blue line was tipped in by Rusty Masters. However the official immediately waived off the goal and the game remained tied at one.

Wichita unloaded 40 shots on Boron during regulation but couldn't get another past him. After five minutes of overtime, the Thunder headed to the shoot-out looking for their first win after being unsuccessful in their previous two chances. Damian Surma scored in the front half of round three, but Griffith tied it at one in the latter part of the third round. Regan denied Kyle Peto in round four, setting up Young's opportunity to give the Thunder a 2-1 advantage and he did just that, putting it through Boron. Regan closed the door on Scott Brannon in round five, helping the Thunder to the 2-1 shoot-out victory.

Griffith scored his second goal in his fourth game in a Thunder uniform while Young recorded his seventh of the season and was named the number one star. Regan improved to 7-5-2 with the win, stopping 23 of 24 shots and was named the third star of the game.

Wichita was 0-for-6 on the power play while Rapid City went 0-for-4.
