Nine players recorded points including Neil Trimm, who had two goals on the night. Wichita improves to 3-2-1 on the season against Quad City and moves above .500 on the road to 7-6-2.

Both teams had trouble generating much in the early going as each club had a feeling out process. Wichita scored first, which has been important for the Thunder this season. After Dustin Donaghy was unable to pull the trigger on a pass in the slot, he got to a loose puck in the right corner, found Aaron Boogaard between the circles and ripped a shot over John Murray's glove to make it 1-0 at 9:43 of the first. Wichita improved to 12-1-2 when scoring the first goal.

Wichita extended its lead to 3-0 with two goals in 24 seconds at the tail end of the second period. Greger Hanson caught a centering feed from Matt Summers and was able to re-direct it through traffic along the goal line past Murray at 16:29. At 16:53, Trimm scored his first of the game with a wrist shot from the right circle that got through Murray's arm to make it 3-0.

In the third, the Thunder scored two more to pull away from the Mallards. Two minutes in, Trimm added his second of the contest as he stole the puck along the left boards, worked to the middle of the ice and snapped a shot past Murray from the left circle to make it 4-1. The Mallards broke up the shutout bid from Kevin Regan at 9:22 as Mickey Lang got to a loose puck and scored his 16th of the season. Donaghy got the lead back to four with his second of the season at 15:47 and Thunder won 5-1 to snap a two-game slide.

With two goals, Trimm has re-taken the team lead in points with 32 and has 18 goals on the season. Donaghy added a goal and an assist. Les Reaney had two helpers and Boogaard scored his first of the season. Regan won for the 13th time this season, stopping 31 of 32 shots on net.

Wichita went 0-for-1 on the power play while the Mallards were 0-for-3.
