A 3-pointer from Garrett Stutz with seven seconds left in the game gave the Wichita State Shockers a 70-69 victory of the LSU Tigers in Bossier City, La. Saturday night.

The Shockers had four reach double figures as Toure' Murry, David Kyles, and J.T. Durley all scored 13 points and Stutz chipped in 12 in the contest. Gabe Blair led the Shocks on the boards with eight rebounds.

LSU was led in scoring by Ralston Turner with 21 points and Andre Stringer with 18 points. Garrett Green paced the Tigers on the boards with 13 rebounds. He turned that into a double-double with 15 points.

Wichita State got out to a slow start in the first half offensively, but outstanding defensive pressure from the Shockers eventually led to points in transition. WSU's defense extended LSU's offense well beyond the three point arc and held them to just eight first half field goals.

WSU led by as many as 17 points in the first half, and took a 14 point lead, 37-23, into the half time break. The Shockers were led in scoring by Durley and Murry who both had 10 points at the break. Wichita State shot 41% from the field and made 14-of-17 from the free throw line in the first half. The Shocks outrebounded the Tigers 27-20 in the first twenty minutes and were led on the boards by Graham Hatch and Kyles, who each had five rebounds a piece.

LSU was led in scoring by Stringer with eight points. Green led the Tigers on the boards with seven rebounds.

LSU came out firing in the second half, going on a 10-0 run behind three straight 3-pointers. The unanswered points cut the Shocker lead down to 37-33 with 17:00 left in the second half. Wichita State committed six fouls in the first three minutes of action allowing LSU to get to the free throw line early. The Shocks, held scoreless for the first 3:36 of the second half, finally ended the LSU run with a Gabe Blair free throw putting WSU up 38-33.

Early foul trouble really hampered the Shockers in the second half. Durley, Aaron Ellis, Blair, and Stutz all had three fouls and the Shockers had 10 team fouls at the 12-minute media timeout.

The Shocks battled through foul trouble and held the lead for most of the second half. WSU pushed the lead out to 55-48 with back-to-back 3-pointers from Durley and Kyles with 8:32 to play in the second half. Kyles has hit at least one three-pointer in every game this season.

Plenty of fouls were called in the game, as Wichita State had no trouble getting to the free throw line. The Shockers were 20-for-26 from the charity stripe with a little over seven minutes to play in the game.

With a little over five minutes left in the second half, LSU cut the lead down to five, 57-53 , after Wichita State turned the ball over on two straight possessions. Hatch stopped the Tiger run with a jumper from the right side. Shockers up 59-53.

A three-pointer from Turner brought LSU within three points and a jumper from Stringer tied the game at 63-63 with 2:03 left in the game. LSU took their first lead of the second half, 66-63, off of a 3-pointer from Green with 1:11 left to play. The Shockers had a 17 point lead with 1:44 left in the first half.

Murry missed the front end of a one-and-one with 41 seconds left and Springer connected on two free throws to make it a two possession game, LSU up 68-64. Kyles hit a deep 3-pointer to bring the Shockers within one, 68-67, with 24 seconds left in the game.

With possibly the play of the game, Garrett Stutz came up big for the Shockers hitting a 3-pointer from the right wing with 7 seconds left on the clock. The connection from behind the arc gave WSU a 70-69 lead and that would be the deciding shot of the ball game. Wichita State sneaks away with a one point victory on the road against an SEC team.

The Shockers are next in action Tues., Dec. 21, when they play Tulsa at Intrust Bank Arena at 7:05 p.m. The match-up will be the first ever collegiate basketball game ever held at Intrust Bank Arena.
