If you know high school football in Kansas, you know the name Tanner Wood. "he's an exceptional athlete, he comes to work every day, he's the type of kid you love coaching", said Conway Springs head coach Matt Biehler.
Wood set the state record for rushing yards in a game Friday with 659 yards against Chapparal. "They just didn't even tackle him, he just went around them, he's alot better than they are", said Conway Springs Senior Carl Leahy.
Wood is 6-5 and weighs 240 pounds. He commands the single wing offense that Conway Springs has used to win seven state titles since 1997. Heading to Kansas State to play defense, he's making the most of his time playing quarterback. "This will probably be the last time i'm going to touch the ball so i'm going to enjoy it", Wood said.
