Opening-round play at the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. has been suspended, tournament officials announced at 6:50 p.m. ET on Friday after it was determined that the course was unplayable due steady rain.
Of the 30 teams in the tournament, 15 were able to get at least one hole completed. Oregon leads at 3 under par with its team members through between four and six holes.
The early wave of teams endured delays that totaled 8 hours and 10 minutes. After a 40-minute delay at the outset of the tournament, teams were pulled off the course at 10:02 a.m. ET, beginning a five-hour delay.
Play resumed shortly after 3 p.m. ET and the teams played for nearly one and a half hours before it was halted for a second time at 4:25.
First-round play will resume at 8 a.m. ET Saturday.
