The Shockers scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, taking advantage of two walks and two hit batsmen from Creghton starter Tommy Strunc. Tyler Baker singled with one out before Casey Gillaspie walked, Micah Green and Erik Harbutz were hit by a pitch, and Mikel Mucha drew a walk to give Wichita State the 2-0 lead.

Creighton quickly answered in the top of the fifth inning scoring four runs on two hits. The Bluejays had the bases loaded with one out when Shocker shortstop Erik Harbutz misplayed a groundball allowing one run to score and cut the Wichita State to 2-1. Brad McKewen followed with a RBI single that evened the score at 2-2, Federico Castagnini sacrifice fly scored the third run of the inning for the Bluejays and Jake Peter gave Creighton a 4-2 lead with a RBI single.

Wichita State cut into Creighton’s two-run lead in the bottom half of the fifth inning when Tanner Dearman doubled to left field and scored on Baker’s RBI groundout. Wichita State trailed Creighton 4-3 after five innings.

In the sixth inning, back-to-back singles from Kevin Lamb and Brennan Murphy led to a costly Shocker throwing error that allowed Lamb to score from second and Murphy score from first to give the Blue Jays a 6-3 lead.

The Shockers made things interesting in the ninth inning as Taylor Doggett scored on an RBI single form Garrett Bayliff and Dearman scored on an RBI single from Baker but Bluejay reliever Bryon Sova got Casey Gillaspie to fly out to center field to end the game.
