A.J. Ladwig took the loss for Wichita State to move his record to 4-5 on the season. The sophomore pitched 5.2 innings, allowed three runs on five hits and struck out a career-high seven batters. Mikel Mucha went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Nick Musec grabbed win for Creighton, going five innings and allowing one run on two hits. Jerry Mitchell went 2-for-4 and drove in a run.

Both pitchers came out of the gate dealing, as Ladwig retired ten batters in a row from the second to fifth innings and Musec didn’t allow a hit until Mucha’s single in the fifth.

Mitchell broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth for the Bluejays when he hit a two-out single into left-center field and scored two batters later on a fielding error by Erik Harbutz. With the bases loaded in it’s half of the fifth, Wichita State was unable to plate any runs.

Creighton added two more runs in the sixth on back-to-back singles by Landon Lucansky and Mitchell that scored Alex Staehely and Brennan Murphy.

With runners at second and third in the bottom of the sixth, Harbutz hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Tyler Baker and cut the Creighton lead to 3-1. Baker had walked to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a double by Casey Gillaspie.
