Salina city leaders have approved naming a basketball court at Bicentennial Center after a coach who died in a plane accident.

KSAL reported Commissioners voted unanimously to qualify the Bi-Center as a naming facility. The intent is to name the basketball court after Kurt Budke.

Budke was the head coach for the Oklahoma State University women's basketball team. The 50-year-old died in a plane crash in November. He had been the OSU coach since 2005

Budke was a Salina native, and graduate of Salina Sacred Heart High School. Family members, including his parents, still live in Salina.

The action by city commissioners paves the way for the basketball court to be named in Budke's honor.
