Kansas Wesleyan Player Earns National Honor

October 30, 2012

Kelton Reed of Kansas Wesleyan has been tabbed the National Football Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Monday. Reed was chosen for his performance against Southwestern College during the week of Oct. 22 - 28 and was selected out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.

Reed, a defensive back from Plano, Texas, helped Kansas Wesleyan hand Southwestern its first home loss of the season, 35-17, on Oct. 27. The junior compiled three tackles, but it was his NAIA individual game-high tying three interceptions that were the keys to victory. All three of Reed's picks stalled potential Moundbuilder scoring drives, including two in the end zone. With the win, the Coyotes were able to remain tied with Ottawa for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference lead heading into the final two weeks of the season.

On the season, Reed is second on the team with four interceptions and seventh with 40 tackles (28 solo). He is the second Coyote to win the Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
